Follow the travels of Morey & Ruthie in their Winnebago SUNSTAR, Blowin-in-the-Wind {and other side trips}.
This Fall we're heading back out west. COVID will be in our thoughts as we plan for adventures while we stay safe! Our plans are to head first to Colorado, then zip over to Utah. Lots of hiking and biking are planned along our route.

Rocky Mountain HIGH !!!!
We took a nice one day stop at White Star Campground where we boated across Twin Lake to the old Interlachen Hotel resort (the nicest resort in the late 1890s). Now closed, you could still feel the presence of a happening place where the wealthy patrons from the silver mines of Leadville came to relax, fish, ride horses, and have fun.
It was cold with temps dropping down to 30 at night but with our propane furnace and generator, we weren't roughing it. On our second night a heavy rain started, and then it got quiet because it was snowing; the next morning we went to view the Maroon Bells and they were covered with 6-10" of snow -- WOW!

2,000 miles in 4 days.....We're here in Leadville, CO
Following, we spent the night at Pawnee State Recreation Area. Another great sunset over the lake, and a nice campsite to relax after the drive.

POW! CRUNCH! AHHHHHH!
We knew the first few days were going to be exciting as we drove across Interstate 80. But if only we had known how exciting!
First we had a woman driver,
Ruthie, at the wheel, (quite good I might add).
Awaiting her two hour jaunt across Pennsylvania was road construction with
those narrow 11 foot wide lanes for driving our 8.5 foot wide RV.
She threaded the needle without a scratch!
POW! Then the excitement started with Morey back
at the wheel. Before we escaped PA,
POW! Pulled over the RV and checked, no
visual reason for the noise….so back on the highway. Slowing down for the entrance to the Ohio
Turnpike, our Tire Minder went off….ZERO PRESSURE, TIRE #5. No foolin’!
Pulled over and reinspected to see a golf ball size hole. Good thing it was one of the dual tires in
the rear. Progressive Insurance road aid came through,
and 3 hours later we were back on the road with our spare.

CRUNCH! We stopped at Portillo’s for Chicago Hot
Dogs. How could we not stop as we
circled south of Chicago .
These are the best….poppy seed bun, pickle
wedge, Vienna beef hotdog and all the fixings (tomatoes, onions, hot peppers,
mustard, and more secret stuff)………..Seriously GOOD.
AHHHHHHH! After two days and
1,000 miles, we are camped at Sugar Bottom Recreation Area near Iowa City . Camped overlooking the Army Core of Engineers
Coralville Lake. A great site and ½ price
to us Seniors……….Now for a good nights sleep, as the next few days will be even
MORE exciting.
Also wanted to thank the fine citizens of Morris, IL for erecting a water tower for Morey (Morris) for our drive by.
